Whereas Huntingdon's apparently will shut down because its already shaky finances were tipped over the edge by the massive legal fees needed to defend itself against a racial discrimination lawsuit - more than 42 pools in Philadelphia were closed down due to a city with a massive financial crisis. Two pathways to the same result.

With the upcoming $9 million "Negligence Lawsuit" filed against financially trouble Clark Atlanta University from this summer's unfortunate slaying of a student by a thug gunman - I would hate to think that anyone in America would hope that this school would not be similarly pushed over the edge financially. Instead I'd hope that such a person would seek to identify WHO the guilty party is, what has been done to mitigate this issue and WHAT the institution in question does for the common good and thus hope that it remains open.

Or maybe that's just me?

I've come to refer to her as "That person." When it comes down to it, that's the purest expression of contempt.
To my grave, I will agree that the media treated her and her family terribly, and she is more than entitled to that particular beef. But it ends there. Beyond that line in the sand, I feel the "hate" factor rising daily.

And I resent the hell out of that. Because I don't enjoy hating people. I really don't. Cheney is the only public figure I could ever honestly say I HATE without being hyperbolic, but Palin is beginning to get on my last #&!!% nerve.

I haven't seen any signs of economic recovery in this mid-sized Midwestern metro area. There is a steady trickle of news stories about businesses closing. The stories about layoffs have been mostly related to either the state government or the state universities. Given the events of the last year, I can't really summons much enthusiasm for the stock market numbers. If they were really a good indicator of the state of the economy, then how is it that last year basically over night they crashed. In real terms, the businesses making up the economy the average person sees don't change their viability and productivity overnight. This makes me think that before the crash, the stock market numbers were inflated by somebodies finagling. It is like with weight loss. If your weight drops by 10 lbs overnight, you know it isn't real weight loss in terms of fat or muscle. You only gain or lose fat or muscle at a slow rate.
