That's a bizarre and interesting disappearance story, stranger than any missing blonde story I've ever heard. It seems strange that the police would release a young woman in the middle of the night with no money or way to contact anyone. I think the media hype around missing persons is proportional to the amount of money and time their parents and friends have to hound the media and police.

Sadly, black blogs ain't as ubiquitous as we'd like to think. Black blogs of any substance are few and far between. What most black folks think about when they think of black blogs is gossipy nonsense that wouldn't run such a story unless Usher's ex-wife and Kayne's beard were involved.

I still say shame on Radio One. With all the ears they reach, and all the major markets they're in, running a 30 second blurb at the top of every hour isn't such a damn stretch.

I am more pissed with the black media outlets. It seems they are more interested in fluff coverage than serious issues. There has been a serial killer targeting black women in Rocky Mountain NC, that with the exception of a few black bloggers got no coverage. An actual serial killer. They should take some responsibility, although I'm not sure how much. Many people concerned about the news don't flock to 'Black" media to catch the updates ( a day late and a doller short :( ). The Black blogs are a great way to reach those that may care.

In terms of this particular young lady her circumstances are bizarre and no one wants to be held accountable for the lack of actions and/or the wrong actions. Her behaviors were such that someone should have been called for her aid. In a fair world she will be found safe and unharmed, but life isn't fair...

They need there local law enforcers to step up. I remember two years ago when Latasha Norman, a honor student at Jackson State University, was missing; a week later Malcolm McMillian, who was Jackson Mississippi's Chief of Police and the Sheriff of Hinds County which also involved Jackson (and he is white), played the race card quick and told the press that the reason that national news have not cover this was because she was black female and it is in what everybody thinks is "Racially Charged" Mississippi. 24 hours later, America's Most Wanted and Nancy Grace was playing it although it was too little too late (They caught the guy the same week they played it). Unfortunately, she was found dead and now Jackson State University has a domestic violence panel in the name of her.

Black AM and FM stations - who probably have a far bigger presence in our community than TVOne - could get involved by directing listeners to alerts posted on their websites.

I think black media should take some of the blame for not reporting black issues, namely the missing children and women. If they can talk about the countless black entertainers and what they are doing in their private and public lives, why can't they show some real life issues and conflicts.

And as far as TVone, Cathy Hughes doesn't come off as trying or even attempting to uplift black people. So I'm not shocked at the absence of quality programs on her network.

I've been posting about Mitrice every day since last Friday and I've gotten thousands of hits. So a little blogger like me along with other black blogs can get the word out.

I have emailed the MSM about the story but honestly TVONE didn't even cross my mind. I really don't think of them when it comes to news.

And just for the record doesn't Comcast own a majority share in TVONE? If so then it's not really Black-owned any more than BET.

At this point I consider Black run blogs our MSM moreso than anyone else.
