O Dear Lord, would this woman just go away already? Enough. Sad to say, but Americans are getting dumber by the day. Really, it's bad. This is why infomercials are so succcessful. People really believe that what they will get is the same thing "as seen on TV".

Sorry, I just don't see Palin playing the "Al Sharpton"/"I know I have no chance of winning, I just want to run to influence the guy who'll eventually lose to the incumbent" role. No way, no how.

Think about it: what does she gain by doing that? She's no Sharpton, or even Huckabee coming into 2012. Neither of those guys was ever even remotely considered a viable candidate. And in the end, when they inevitably lost, neither of them had the ability to influence that their party's candidate actually advocated. And BTW, it's not like she's got some unique, amazing, innovative idea to push to the eventual nominee. She's all "talking points".

This worked well for both Sharpton and Huckabee because it actually RAISED their profiles, and both were able to cash in, both with cable tv shows, books, etc. As for Palin, this would be a downgrade. Those folks standing in line think she can actually win. The only folks who thought Huckabee and Sharpton could really win are Chuck Norris and Al's hairdresser.

I just don't see her playing that role. She could still continue to cash in AND keep her martyr status by simply saying she has "family issues" or something in 2012. She would maintain her "mystique" and "cult hero" status to these minions, and when Obama wins re-election, still position herself for a run in 2016, thus milking the cow another 4 years.

Running and getting trashed in the GOP primaries does NOTHING to help her.

I'll need ya'll to further explain why you think this is such a great idea.

In all fairness, I was at the inauguration, which was on a schoolday here in DC, and LOTS of folks pulled their kids out and sat them in far worse weather for far longer. To Palin supporters, this book tour is their January 20th. I'm not gonna criticize these folks for that, if that's how they see it. No, it makes no sense to me either, but I'm not a "real American", so what do I know?

You're only just now noticing that? Huh. I'd thought that was always the main thing we all couldn't stand about her rise to fame. It's not just the vapidity, it's the utter shallowness and lack of any ideas.

Google "Jon Stewart", "Palin" and the phrase "there's no onion." That'll get the video straight away. Stewart, as usual (or his writing team, whichever) somehow manages to say it better than anyone else ever has. If anyone ever asks why you don't like Palin, just show them that clip.

Palin's job in the party is to energize the base, so that they will be energetic when a more moderate beats her in the primaries. With a strong, popular rightish candidate in the game, moderate Republicans can draw centrist votes by contrast.

I actually suffered through Palin's interview with Bill O' the other night for research purposes.

While she managed to make it through his softball lobs without anymore verbal miscues, one thing struck me that I missed before...

This woman has NO ORIGINAL IDEAS!!! None, not a single one. She sounds like one continuous loop of talking points. She presents NOTHING new. Nothing.

If for no other reason, this is why she won't make it beyond Iowa. behind all the winking and populist talk, there isn't anything she's saying that's an actual solution. She is attractive to many because she speaks their language. But you can't win anything by catering to your "base". Especially when she'll be going again folks like Pawlenty, Gingrich, Huckabee, Romney, etc. who actually have DONE something (albeit not always successfully) and have an occasional fresh idea.

Sure, the concept of her going head to head with Obama is absurd, but her taking on fellow GOPers is going to prevent that from ever occurring.

If there's anyone "scared" of her, it's Huckabee. She's more or less got his same shtick in a slightly more attractive packaging.

Too much is being made of this. The media's too eager to pile it on. I'm willing to entertain the (predictable) conservative accusation that this angry crowd has been mischaracterized, and that the relatively few people shouting and booing are plants. Willing to entertain. Not necessarily willing to believe without proof. After all, it's not too much of a stretch to imagine that the sort of people who would support Palin are really this silly. That guy who says he's not sure about supporting her now----man. Can we say "shallow?" Even shallower than Palin herself! That guy, right there, represents everything wrong with the state of the American electorate. (Is it just me or does he bear a faint resemblence to Glenn Beck?)
