Beck Tells Palin To Go Sit Down And Bake Him Some Cookies. Conservatives Look The Other Way.

We all know that the number one objective of wingnut media is defending Ms. Sarah's honor. Tomes have been written about how badly she was treated by the "LameStream Media" last fall, even though it should be noted that most of the slights against her came from her own McCain campaign handlers. But intraparty bickering doesn't sound nearly as good as imaginary attacks from some "Ivy League, East coast, liberal elitists".

Nobody better say nuthin' bad bout' Ms. Sarah.

So, imagine the surprise when current wingnut in chief Glenn Beck had the nerve to actually put Ms. Sarah in her place last week. You'd think the teabaggers would be calling for this guy's head by now, right?
If Glenn Beck makes a White House run in 2012 with Sarah Palin, his name has to come first, the firebrand broadcaster said.

Palin was recently asked if she would consider Beck as a running mate and said she considered him "a hoot," a characterization Beck took issue with on his Wednesday radio show.

"I don't think things are hoots," Beck said. "I don't. I don't think it's a hoot. I would never use the word hoot, and I respectfully ask that every time my name is brought up she would stop using the word 'hoot.'"

And anyway, Beck said, real men don't take a back seat to chicks.

"I'm just saying, Beck-Palin, I'll consider," Beck said. "But Palin-Beck—can you imagine, can you imagine what an administration with the two of us would be like? What? Come on! She'd be yapping or something, and I'd say, 'I'm sorry, why am I hearing your voice? I'm not in the kitchen.'

"I mean, you'd have to live up to the evil conservative stereotypes, you'd have no choice, you'd have to. Look, I talked to the woman about it, I don't even know what she was saying."

Beck's tongue-in-cheek misogynistic rant continued, ensureing that even with a woman on his ticket he will not get the votes of any women should he run.

"Can you imagine what an administration with the two of us would be like? Come on!" Beck said. "She'd be yapping or something and I'd say, 'I'm sorry, why am I hearing your voice? I'm not in the kitchen.' I mean, you'd have to live up to the evil conservative stereotypes, you'd have no choice."
Here's the video.

Visuals.

So, dude pulls the sexist trifeca of telling a woman to get in her place (Veep), stop yappin', and stay in the kitchen. As of this morning, the story was barely registering a blip on the Google News radar, and hadn't been covered by Conservative media outlets at all.

Where is the faux outrage?!?

Question: Is there a double standard of some sort going on here?

Wow.

Well, it ain't just race. This guy and his type are completely tone-deaf about everything.

Yeah, Marbles...we have a tendency to compartmentalize discrimination and prejudice into nice little adjectives and nouns (i.e. racism, ageism, feminism, sexism, etc). But the truth is, regardless of where and how it is directed, it boils down to discrimination and prejudice. And Beck among others is clearly one who revels in discriminatory and prejudicial ideas. No surprises here.

Did you know that they were born within one day of one another back in February 1964? Perhaps the reason I can't take either of them seriously is that they are two months older than I am. They remind me of the kids in class who always needed to be the center of attention: good or bad. And now they are on the grander stage of the US media competing with each other for attention. And I'm feeling contrary. They want attention and I refuse to give it to them. My hands are over my ears (figuratively, of course).

The sexism card she played last election go around is just a political tool to hammer her opponents. Asking politicians and pundits to be consistent come with their rhetoric is way too much to ask.

On another note. What kind of world do we live in when a former drug addicted half bit radio dj could be asked to run for the highest office in the land? If idiots like Beck and twits like Palin are the saviors of conservatives then you are truly headed for oblivion. William Buckley and Goldwater would be spinning in his grave if he knew that these two miscasts were leading the conservative movement.

How has discrimination impacted Palin? White women love to trot out the "We're a discriminated against minority, too" line. White women weren't being lynched, weren't having their land taken, weren't interned, weren't enslaved, weren't exterminated. As a matter of fact, white women benefitted greatly from whiteness. Forgive me if I don't weep over the fact that they were "forced" to not work outside the home, while a woman of color cleaned their house. They need to own their status as oppresssors and quit their bitching.

@Paul. What year is this? Its not even 1960 let alone 1760. It must really suck to be black and liberal these days. Even though its Mourning in America(tm), Barack is Prescedent(tm) and the slaves are now free we are still "in the struggle?" and being opressed?

Just checking.

As for Beck, well as a third generation sexist myself. I chuckled. Its called humour. Even AB recognized it was tongue in cheek so where's the story here?

@ Wave:
She may have used the sexism card as a machette against the "enemies" she clearly relishes having, but that doesn't change the fact that a lot of the media coverage of her WAS disgustingly sexist. It really shocked me at the time, the stupid things media figures were saying. In that area, I'm on her side. (I feel unclean saying that, though.)

@ Paul:

It's apples and oranges. By that kind of logic, every single American citizen (including pre-1960s black Americans) is an oppressor of third-world peoples, since we all live off of their blood and sweat. Yet are you willing to own that label?

No white woman would claim to be a "discriminated minority" since technically women are a majority.

Don't rewrite history into an America where every white woman somehow had a maid (who was always black). I hate this pointless "who suffered the most" game people think it matters if they play.

However, Palin only uses "sexism" as a convenient excuse to ignore the fact that it's her Know-Nothingness and transparent lust for attention that earn her so much ridicule. If she had the brains to equal her chutzpah, all the sexism on earth couldn't stop her.

@ Daedalus:

"Its called humour."

Life may not be fair, but the reality is that it DOES matter who's telling the joke.

Maybe it proves people are hearing Beck but not actually listening to what he says...he's a babbling head good for entertainment. This might be a good sign.

@ Paul

While women are no longer the minority there has definitely been various forms of discrimination regardless of race.

So for you to pooh-pooh white women's discrimination is extremely patronizing on your part:

1. In the US Black men could vote in 1870. Women could not exercise this right until 1919.

2. Contraception for females was banned until 1965 when the US Supreme Court strikes down the Comstock Laws.

3. Roe V. Wade was decided in 1973 which in essence meant that woman did not have complete reproductive rights over their body until that point. Condoms have been available for males in the US since the 1800s.

The list of acts of discrimination against women (of all races) in this country could go on. Please refrain from belittling white women. While I am certainly not a fan of Palin your attempt to "white wash" the topic is insulting. P.S. I don't think Palin had a black maid...nor have most of us.

@vanilla latte

Black men were really able to vote in Mississippi in 1910? Do you really want to say that?

vanilla latte said...

@Paul

Do you, as a white male, really want to sit here and debate the privileges of white women??

That's the pot calling the kettle black. I don't think that's a path you want to take...'cause it doesn't get more hypocritical than you spewing about the injustices of black women.

No outrage, it was a joke.

Now if he'd called her a nappy-headed ho, THAT would be cause for outrage.

I am, by the way, laughing my ASS off at all you women springing to her defense NOW.

Now? NOW? Please. You're transparent.

@ Spool

I don't see any "coming to her defense". The point of the post (and I think most of the comments here) was to point out the hypocrisy of her always crying victim, yet turning the other way when Beck says something.

Letterman was just making a joke too, was he not? Where's the FaceBook screed about this?

Between these two dopes, Mike "Willie Horton" Huckabee, and the rest of the GOP, I wonder if Obama will even need to bother raising re-election campaign funds in 2012.

vanilla latte said...

@Spool

If you're referring to me coming to her defense you're reading way too much into it. I said she probably never had a black maid--in response to Paul. That's not really much of a defense.

If you're not referring to my comment please disregard.

@AB: it's sort of scary, given what you pointed out, that Obama's numbers are as bad as they are...

AverageBro.com said...

@ Spool

I obviously don't agree with everything Obama's done thus far, but c'mon, he's taken steps to fix things, often making some not so popular decisions along the way. Give it some time. I suspect the approval numbers are largely indicative of this "fix it now" ethos. Stuff didn't get screwed up in 10 months, it won't get fixed that quickly.

BTW, depending on where you look, the approval rating is still right around 50%. If you're using Bush's first year as a comparison (and I suspect you are), please don't forget he got a very favorable bump when a certain thing occurred. Obama, not so much.

I suspect things (including that approval rating) will look quite different come 2012. As for the GOP, if there's a messiah on the horizon, I sure don't see him/her yet.
