This is almost as funny as 'The Reeeeedhouse!' More seriously, that trianlge of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania is in serious trouble right now, and the only thing that keeps California from being in that same boat is our weather and breathtaking geography.
I was wrong; THIS WAS FUNNIER! Having lived in Ohio for 5 years, and having loved the Jim Carey show ('Cleveland Rocks!'), the 'we're not Detroit!' line had me laughing so hard I almost pulled an ab muscle. Even the great Bob Hope jokingly referred to the Southern California enclave of Toluca Lake, where he lived, as 'Cleveland with palm trees.' Once those mid-westerners come out here they never go back, because the combination of dreary weather and rust-belt malaise chases many people outta there. If it weren't for LeBron and Ohio St. football owning Michigan the past few years, half that state would either commit suicide or seek asylum in another state!
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is classic. As someone from Bmore I know what it's like to live in a city that has much to offer but still battles the image of being run down so I can only imagine how they feel in Cleveland. This is Comedy Gold though!!
As a native DC'er I remember reading an article in either the weekly DC rag CityPaper or the B'more version that made a strong, strong case for B'more having more native culture and history than DC; as you said, the media's portrayal of the Queen City as a gritty, tough, depressed symbol of urban dysfunction (can we say, 'The Wire') overshadows the contributions to American culture that city has given us, e.g. Poe, Twain, Ruth, crabcakes, Johnny U, Cal Ripken, Melo.

I've never been to Cleveland, but now I'm going to put it on my must see list.
