Stereotypes are a way of life in America. We feed into them so readily that they take on a life of their own. But just how well do you really know your racial stereotypes?
Black, White, Or Other? lists a particularly heinous crime/news story, with incriminating bits of info omitted for the sake of confidentiality. Your job is to guess whether the protagonist is black, white, or the omnipresent "other", and to tell why you guessed how you did. The best guessplanation wins a week's supply of Cyber CapriSuns. And yeah, you could prolly Google the news story to find out the race of the person, but what sorta loser does that? Seriously. And if you already know about the story, and thus the answer, sit this one out. Be a good sport. Don't cheat.
Anyways, here's today's entry.
Police in [redacted] are searching for some crooks who robbed a couple of their Popeye's Chicken.Update: The answer revealed. The robbers were black.
A young mother, who was just leaving her shift after closing up the restaurant at a Popeye's Chicken in [redacted], says she was followed home by four men in a burgundy Pontiac sedan. According to authorities, the men drove by several times, yelling at the victim and her boyfriend saying, "give us the chicken."
The victims ignored them and kept walking back to their house thinking they were gone. But the suspects came back.
Police say the passenger got out of the car with a shotgun and yelled "[redacted]" The man ordered the victim to put down the chicken or else get shot.
The gunman then allegedly pointed the barrel at the victim and that's when her boyfriend pleaded and begged, telling the suspect the she is two months pregnant.
Police say after they were on the ground the gunmen stole the victim's purse, and as he was walking away, they say they could hear the other suspects in the car yelling to "blast him."
The victim says she had just gotten paid at work and was going to spend the cash for her five-year-old daughter whose birthday is on Saturday.

I know this is wrong. But this shit has Black folks written all over it. Only black folks will get into this drama over some chicken. Malcolm X and MLK Jr are shaking their heads.
I'll say other. Fifteen or twenty years ago I would have said black.
But these days Latinos relacing blacks in menial jobs and crime.
After the retreat I attended with my students this past weekend, identifying race or ethnicity from this info would be stereotyping at best. I will say these assailants were young, because this robbery is so stupid any person over the age of 28 is not likely to do it. As Patty said, all people of all stripes do dumb sh@#$ nowadays, 'cause stupidity and ignorance shows up in any color.

If they were robbed for some El Pollo Loco or Crisp and Juicy I would put it on the Latinos.
