We don't know the father's side of this. My mother just told the story of her and her brother when they were about 4 or 5 and how her mother put boxing gloves on them and told them to fight because she was sick and tired of them hitting each other. Moreover she was sitting there with with a stick (or a belt) saying if they didn't fight she was gon' whoop 'em.

And from then on, they thought twice about fighting amongst each other.

I'd be interested to hear the custodial father's side of the story.

Moreover, since neither kid received any bruises, no weapons or blunt objects were used to inflict physical damage I say no harm, no foul. At that age, the amount of psychological damage is minimal if this was an isolated incidence. The question that needs to be asked in this case is whether or not this is a pattern.

This sounds like a case of a sore loser of a mother and a stupid daddy who filmed it and put it on Youtube. (I mean people STILL don't get it...maybe when the police starts raiding dorm rooms and stuff en masse from these college students putting pics of them chiefin' and getting drunk, then people'll start getting it.)

Or maybe the father just wanted the kids to do "'hood rat stuff."

Who knows.

@AB

I saw that pic of the DE-ranged looking Santa when I googled "black Santa Claus" and I was absolutely MORTIFIED!!!!

I don't think it's that serious. those light taps for about 2 minutes? Big deal.

And why is the mama all in it? They don't even live with her for SOME reason. She couldn't even raise her kids. Her opinion is irrelevant.

Two words...trailer trash.

Smokie: It's joint custody. The father only has the kids for some parts of the week.

For me, the part that grates is when the older sibling tried to break it up but was stopped. NOT cool.

You're required to have a license to drive a car, but any idiot with functioning genitalia can become a biological parent. The video was a sickening display of dysfunction. Anyone who tries to rationalize or minimize the abuse those kids suffered needs their head examined and should definitely not themselves have children.

I agree with Boboso. There's not much to justify here. The Dad (and I use that term loosely) is clearly negligent for making two toddlers fight each other (one clearly is being abused), and posting it on the web to gloat.

I'm thinking the mother is about to win sole custody. The fact that this happened on a military base only makes it worse.

I see where Uppity is coming from. But that was an isolated insident and your grandmother didn't record it and show the world and possible extraterrestial beings from other planets or galaxies(if you believe that stuff). That was just stoopid for him to tape it and post it like that, especially if this was a one time thing. I personally don't let the other sibling hit the one who hit them first. I make the one who started it apologize. And if they're both fighting then they both get in trouble.

@AB you are absolutely right that the fact that he's in the military and it happened on the base is a HUGE setback for him and his side of the custody agreement.

MissJay: The possible extraterrestrial beings gave up on us LONG before seeing this video. But if they hadn't, this might've been what did it.

I do wonder if the YouTube age has created more of this kind of clueless stupidity, or simply exposed the stupidity that was already there to an unprecedented degree.
Honestly, I don't know which possibility is more depressing.

This sickens me. Those are just babies being taught to solve problems through violence. They don't need to be w/that irresponsible "dad". I understand trying to "toughen" boys up, but these are BABIES and it simply is not developmentally appropriate. There are more effective ways to teach kids how to work out their little tiffs.
