The Curse Of Les Boulez.

Sorry, I apologize in advance because I know this post won't make sense to more than 5 readers, but c'mon. Has there ever been a franchise more cursed than my Washington Wizards?

First, Gilbert Arenas waits until the week before camp to get a 3rd knee surgery.

The the team's only defensive presence, Brendan Haywood (above, tall guy) opts for wrist surgery and will be gone for the entire season.

And finally, team captain Antawn Jamison goes down with a severe knee strain in the first quarter of a meaningless preseason game tonight. He'll be out indefinitely.

I suppose it could be worse. I could be coach Eddie Jordan (above, short guy).

I'm not feeling in the most sporting of moods right now, so help me out. If your team's in a worse predicament, please share your horror story and join the misery.

Thanks for the memories guys. I can't bear to witness this carnage in person this year. It's been real.

I'm going somewhere to cry in my cereal.

Okay, who am I kidding. I'm a Bullets fan till I die.

Question: Could you possibly have a worse sporting fan predicament than mine?

The answer is yes. Why? Simple. I'm a Knick fan.

@ Leon

Yeah, ya'll are pretty bad off, but you were expected to suck. We were sposed to make the playoffs. This is just wrong, man. Wrong.

LOL @ Leon...Knicks fans should be the last ones talking reckless...

Are the Wiz dead? Eh...they do tend to play better without Agent No-No. Is is safe to say that Caron Butler is the face of that team?

Yeah, it looks like your team is gonna need a little Harry Potter wizardry this year.

Why are they called the Wizards, this inquiring mind would like to know.

@ Blk Diaspora

The team was first called the Baltimore BULLETS, then the Capitol Bullets when they moved to DC, and finally the Washington Bullets when they won the NBA title in the mid-70's.

The team then went through a brutal 20 year stretch of missed playoffs and bad draft picks. They decided to change the team name and logo once they got Chris Webber and Juwan Howard in the mid 90's. The team said this was because they wanted to stop glorifying violence in a city with the highest murders per capita (at some points in the 80's). Anyone with a brain knows they just wanted to sell more jerseys. So, they held a public contest and the name Wizards somehow won.

I should note, the team has been marginally better (4 straight yrs of playoffs... till now) with the new name, but it's corny and many locals still call them the Bullets anyways. Bullets sounds brolic, tough. Wizards? No so much.

Just shaking my head, at a loss for words, without Twan, Caron is bound to step up and do his piece, but with a supporting cast of Nick Young, Deshawn Stevenson, Etan Thomas(is he even playing yet?), Darius Songaila, and Antonio Daniels, will fare them a 3rd or 4th place in the below-average East Division. Or, who knows?, they might surprise everyone and come out on top.
O.K., maybe not, but a sistah can dream right?

I'll still be watchin faithfully, as I always have.

@ Kesi

You forgot about Andray Blatche!!!

Turns out Jamison's injury isn't severe. He should be back shortly. I jumped the gun.

Without Haywood the interior D will be awful, but I guess it's time for Etan to earn to spot back. He is healthy, but looked bad last night. Maybe Pesh and McGhee will get some run.

The team can still make the playoffs with Jamison and Caron in the East. If Arenas comes back soon, they could still be okay. But they need to shore up the perimeter D, because if their wings get burned, it's an automatic 2 pts.

I'll still watch too, who am I kidding. I live and die by my team.

meh...

The Bulls post-jordan era.

And I guess I'll have to save the Bears when we were on our THIRD Qb season before last.

@AB Hey man, I have to really appreciate your commitment to the Wizards. I mean you seem genuinely concerned about the status of your "surrogate" team. And on top of this you are really, really trying.
But, did you really think that the Wizards had a chance this year. Last I checked, Big softee(Haywood) was still on the team. You can't win with him. Jamison is a painful loss to the team. But he's not the force he should have been. And Gilbert.....what can you say about him.

PEEP the video and ask yourself if this is why you are a Bullets fan?

Man, how do YOU know about that video? That was SOOO lame, I just had to add it to the post.

"Mu-re-saaaaaaaaaaan. You DA' MAN!!!"

Haywood is actually decent. He's good for 11/8 with a couple of blocks. You can't ask for much for from your starting center.

I didn't expect much more than another 45 win season and 1st round loss. I'm more than happy with that. Heck, it beats being a Hawks fan, right?

spool32 said...

Have the Hawks done anything since Dominique Wilkins?

@spool32

They made it to the playoffs last season.

Shocked me and erryone else.

And you got Josh smith on the team now...we'll see what happens this year.

You could be a Cubs fan, like me.

Y'all got me on that one! It's HARD being a Hawks fan. I collect ticket stubs from each game that I have been to. Since 1997 I have been to 43 Hawks games and they have LOST THEM ALL! I have never seen them win live.

The fans in Seattle would love to have any team right now.
