Tavis Redeems Himself?!?

I'm not the biggest Bill Maher fan, and you know I'm not exactly too keen on Tavis Smiley after that Annual Soundbyte Olympics™ State Of The Black Union snub a few months back.

That said, I'm proud of the way Tavis stands up for the Black Church (not necessarily just Rebb'n Wright) here by breaking down America's revisionist history with Dr. King.

I'll give the man some credit for saying what needs to be said and standing his ground. What sayeth' ye'?

Question: Does Tavis have some legitimate points here?

Update: Hold the horses. He's still hatin' on Obama.

* Props to N.M. for sending this one in. It's Request Week at AB.com, if you didn't already know.

Tavis makes some valid points. Personally though, it's hard to take him too seriously after his actions regarding Obama. We'll see later on if he can gain some of that respect back.

My mom was talking about this on Saturday. Tavis has some diva tendencies when it comes to not getting what he wants, but he's still a brilliant dude.

Oh yeah, congratulations on getting quoted in today's "Express" newspaper!

Leon,

Where in the paper was this? Man, I need to go grab one. What section? Today's?

It's in the "Blog Log" section of today's paper. Here's a url link to the PDF of today's edition. It's 8MB large, and you'll have to scroll until you find it...but this way you can print it out if you want.

Yes, Tavis has some legitimate points. I also agree with Bill Maher regarding what people think. You know how it is, sometimes you want to be a fly on the wall to hear what's being said. There is an audience for Buchanan, O'Reilly, Savage, Limbaugh, Hannity and the like. Those guys recognize that there is racism in this country and they are getting MAD rich off of it. Their hate is broadcast to millions and millions of people. They have re-tooled their language from the words of yester-year and stopped using bull-horns. Their "ish" is now 21st century, Cable, Internet, Global. Fair and Balance - yeah right!!! Who owns the media.

congrats on the Express!!

Yeah, Tavis redeemed himself, LOL!

It's amazing how Robert Klein didn't believe that MLK was radical. I just learned of that 2 years ago. It's not something picked up in secondary school and a lot of colleges.
