Condi For Veep?

This picture needs a caption. Drop one in the comments, please.

Last week, I told ya'll I doubted Condoleezza Rice would continue with a career in politricks after her gig's up in January. She was once considered a Presidential candidate in 08', but her popularity and reputation have taken big hits in Bush's 2nd term, and I hadn't heard a peep about her doing anything of the sort in eons.

Well, wouldn't you know it, AB is actually wrong for a change. Turns out she's angling for the next best thing.
ABC News' Mary Bruce Reports: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is actively courting the vice presidential nomination, Republican strategist Dan Senor said.

“Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this,” Senor said this morning on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”

According to Senor, Rice has been cozying up to the Republican elite.

Senor explained that Rice’s history in public office would make her a prime candidate, especially in light of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain’s emphasis on experience throughout his campaign.

John McCain promptly came out today and said he had heard nothing of the sort, which is basically code for "damnit, who leaked the story, already?". Unless something dramatically bad happens, we will likely have black folks on both sides of the ticket come the Fall.
I've said it many times before, I am a huge admirer of Dr. Rice, who is the consummate Credit To Her Race. I know it sounds completely illogical given my total disdain for her political views and party but seriously, you can't possibly discount the woman's accomplishments. Last week's CYIN Moment made her a little more human and a bit less plastic, which was refreshing.

One of the things I was somewhat looking forward to was her inevitable autobiography (don't they all write one once out of office?). Getting the story-behind-the-story of what makes this woman tick and how she's managed to hurdle the double whammy of racism and sexism en route to becoming the Most Powerful Woman In The World (bwaaaaa haaaahhaaa!!) would have been interesting to say the least, assuming she could be somewhat transparent. Alas, this will have to wait a few more months, as McCain/Rice will inevitably get trounced by the Obama/Edwards Express. And yeah, I know Edwards publicly said he wasn't interested in the Number Two Spot last week himself. That's just code for "are ya'll gonna book my Southwest Airlines flight to Denver or do I have to use my Rapid Rewards?".

Either way, the talking heads are already jibber jabbering about how having Rice on the ticket will help the GGG-O-P-Uniiiiitttt win inroads with black voters and siphon off some of this valuable electorate from Obama. Sorry, but I don't really see that happening. Even if Clinton somehow steals manages to win the Democratic nomination, I just don't see black folks falling for 12 straight years of Bushonomics. You'd have better luck trying to convince Black America to buy Gregory Abbott's Greatest Hits. Nice try, but we ain't that gullible.

Still, adding Condi to the mix at least will make for an interesting Fall. I guess that's about all you can ask for.

Question: Do you think Condi Rice is a solid VP choice? Would adding her help the GOP with the Black vote? And just how many versions of Shake You Down would that Gregory Abbott's Greatest Hits have to contain to come up with 7 songs?

I won't believe it until I see it.
Why would she put herself through that hell? Dems would rip her apart. I'm not buying it. Senor needs more people.

I think Condoleezza Rice will make a great VP, she has the experience, and can continue working on affairs another 4-8 years. Why not consider her in this position. Hell she needs to make a run for President.

Although you banned me from this site, I owe you an apology. I also invite you to read my post about Condi vs Barack (once it is finished later this evening)

I had a similar situation in which one of my regular commentators disrespected my opinion. It was about Barack being no better than Condi when it comes to blacks.

So, AverageBro, I am sorry. I will not visit your site anymore, but I owe you a deep apology for disrespecting people on your site.

Sigh...why do I still come to this blog!??!

I'm infuriated by the idea that Condi as veep could bring black folks to the Republican party in '08! It just all seems like a really elaborate and cruel long con a la A&E's "Hustle".

Ha Ha Ha I said, John deserved a compliment not a Condi-ment.

I would love to see her on the ticket because it would make a lot of peoples' heads explode!! They would just vapourlock and not even be able to leave the house on election day other than to lie in the street and writhe in agony. "black man or black woman?? Lord, what have we come to that a white man can't get elected without the help of a coloured person???"

Honestly, how many people do you think would just not vote and stay home screaming amd weeping at their televisions?

@Thembi: Could it be that some black people would rather vote Republican, but feel they have a duty to history to cast their vote for Barack anyway? A choice that strikes a blow against racism AND ties into conservative ideals might appeal to some segment of the community, don't you think?

I think it'd be a fantastic thing for the party of Lincoln to also put the first black woman in that office, and not surprising at all. I tell you what, Huckabee would never have considered it - the GOP hasn't selected someone this moderate since Reagan.

I hope she gets it - if nothing else, it further prevents race from being an issue of consequence in the race.

C'mon man, don't you know who GREGORY ABBOTT IS!?! By posing such a question, you obviously missed my analogy hook line and sinker.

Oh, @ebw: I don't think the Dems can really rip her apart. Personal attacks are the stock in trade of both the left and the rightwing fringe machines, but the current state of play prevents reasonable people from tolerating personal shots against Barack. This is not the case for attacks on McCain though - reasonable people on the left can join in some really nasty personal swipes against him with no social pressure to disavow them.

Were Condi the VP choice for the Republicans, those sorts of nasty personal shots against her would make Democrats look like hypocrites, and prevent the mainstream party from echoing them. Remember how Obama forced Hillary again and again to waste time and media coverage disavowing silly shit her flunkies pulled? The GOP would do that to Obama constantly, as the inevitable lefty moonbats stepped over the line.

Choosing Condi spikes a line of attack the Democratic strategists have been counting on, turns their far-left base into a liability in the media space, and politically immunizes the the McCain campaign from accusations of racism whenever the rightwing crazies slip their leash and go nuts.

There are other good choices out there, but Condi is surely high on the list.

Woo that one went right over my head, yep. The only Greg Abbott I knew was the Texas Attorney General, and I was sure that was wrong...
