Hillary Gets Caught In A Little White Lie

[Yep, I smell a rat too, homegirl.]

You probably noticed Hillary Clinton laying low during that whole Rebb'n Wright dilemma, and given the fact that Wright was a post-Monica guest at the White House, I suppose it made sense. Still, if we're 100% honest, the media has yet to really Swift Boat Hillary on much of anything. Sure, she's been under occasional fire for the way she and her surrogates have run their campaign to date, but few of the many potential bombshells of her past life have been mentioned yet. You know, minor stuff like Marc Rich, her past Republican affiliation, Saul Alinsky, Whitewater, and all the other miscellaneous garbage that McCain and Co. will use to ether discredit her should she somehow become the Democratic nominee.

So much for that one. CBS News is reporting that a story Hillary commonly tells on the stump to inflate illustrate her foreign policy experience is nothing more than a BOLDFACED LIE an embellishment.
It was supposed to be an example of Hillary Rodham Clinton's battle-tested experience: "I remember landing under sniper fire," Clinton said at a recent campaign event.

It started when, in a recent speech, Clinton spoke of her visit to Tuzla, Bosnia, in 1996 as first lady. The brutal war was over, but hostilities continued. And though the trip was exactly 12 years ago Tuesday, the memories seemed etched in Clinton's mind.

"There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base," she said.

Problem is: that's not how it happened at all. And we should know: CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson and a CBS News crew accompanied the First Lady on that Bosnia trip.

A photograph shows Clinton talking to Attkisson on the military flight into Tuzla.

And pictures CBS News recorded show the greeting ceremony when the plane landed.
Peep this video. Yep, looked really dangerous to me, Hill.

And to think, she even has her daughter on the stump telling this exact same lie. Shame, shame, shame!
But there was no sniper fire either when Clinton visited two army outposts, where she posed for photos. And no sniper fire back at the base, where she sang in a USO show starring Sinbad and Sheryl Crowe.

Asked about the issue during a meeting with the Philadelphia Daily News' editorial board on Monday, Clinton said she "misspoke."

"I went to 80 countries, you know. I gave contemporaneous accounts, I wrote about a lot of this in my book. You know, I think that, a minor blip, you know, if I said something that, you know, I say a lot of things - millions of words a day - so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement," she said.
A misstatement, you say? Sorta like that whole "chickens come home to roost" thing, huh?

This isn't new news to any black folks who've had their ear to the ground in recent weeks. Didn't washed up comedian Sinbad essentially say the same thing just last month? And given the complete and utter lack of documentation of what she did during her 8 years "in office", is it fair to say Clinton isn't nearly as 'qualified and experienced" as she wants us all to think? Hell, Obama's been an elected official for a longer time anyways.

I suppose I should be dancing in my seat [||] now that this story is becoming Clinton's own personal Rebb'n Wright in the news cycles today, but part of me knows it won't. If the handful of conservative talking monkeys that I sampled on my commute in this morning are any indication, I doubt it.

Nope, lying about your 35 years of experience pales in comparison to having attended a typical black church for 20 years. Most of the callers said this was bad, but didn't compare to that "race mongering Anti-American preacher" that Obama associates with.

And that, in a nutshell tells you everything you need to know about what's wrong with this country?

Question: How will Hillary try and spin this one? Which story is worse in your eyes? Bosnia or Rebb'n Wright?

Let me see if I can frame it for you sp that you see it a different way.

Caveat: I don't endorse this sort of thinking, but I'm unsurprised to hear it.

The Clintons lie. This is the second lie she's been caught in - she planted questioners in the early debates. Her husband is a liar - and she lied for him. They're liars. When a liar lies to you, are you shocked? No. It's a "Dog Bites Man" story. Perversely, our absurdly low expectation of honesty from Hillary immunizes her from serious punishment for being a liar.

Obama argues that words matter. He puts himself forward as more worthy of respect... he's not just another lying politician. He's bringing change to Washington. So when he says that words matter, and somebody he's closely associated with turns out be telling people that the government is trying to kill black America with drugs and AIDS, then you've got a story on your hands.

Mr. Clean gets it on with prostitute? That's a story. Great Orator is Friends with Crazypants Racist? That's a story. Liar Gets Caught in Lie?

Not so much.

Now, having said that... it's just so typical. So typical of her, it disgusts me. I hope Obama can convince the delegates to go his way at the convention.

Aaaand she's out with her official spin. She says that she speaks millions of words a day and to give her a break since it's been a long campaign and she's only human.

Hmmmm, there's another lie in there somewhere.

She's trying to divert attention from her lie by now making comments about Rev. wright.

Clinton Chats With The Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy?
Posted by Scott Conroy| 28

The news out of Pennsylvania today was that Hillary Clinton weighed in on the Reverend Jeremiah Wright controversy when she told a newspaper editorial board, "he would not have been my pastor … You don't choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend."

But somewhat lost in the hubbub over this latest jab at Obama was the very fact that Clinton was meeting with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review editorial board at all.

Published by billionaire conservative activist Richard Mellon Scaife, the Tribune-Review is known for its opinion page, which tilts heavily to the right. During the 1990s, the paper published a series of stories examining the case of Vince Foster, the former White House Deputy Counsel whose 1993 death was ruled a suicide after several investigations.

The Tribune-Review was at the forefront of conspiracy theorists who speculated that Hillary and President Clinton may have been involved in murdering Foster and covering up his death. As late as 2002, the Tribune-Review published a column suggesting Hillary Clinton's presidential aspirations would be tampered due to the Foster "cover-up."

Asked at a news conference this afternoon what it felt like to sit in the heart of the "vast right-wing conspiracy," Clinton laughed.

"It was actually very pleasant … " she said. "I said in the beginning when I arrived that it was obviously somewhat counterintuitive for me to be there, but it was a good discussion."
-----------------------------
Po' thang--She's really desperate. (You bet it was a good discusion, she managed to turn the convo from her to Obama's reverend--and this will be the sound bite heard around the world.) She's a shrewd operator.

Hillary is so gross and disturbing. What kills me is the audacity of it, that she thought her and her daughter could spin fantastic yarns and no one would challenge them. But I'm with spool32 - we already knew the emporer had no clothes.

Am I the only one tickled by the fact that Walter Oakes is the witness?

Lying heifer!

Oooohkay, so now I know what to put on a picket sign. "Liar, Liar, sniper fire!"

God, she just sets them up, we knock em out.

Lolo said...

Oh, and I know it's bad to delight in another's misfortune buuuuut, the press is really having big fun with this story. CBS putting out a piece counting just how many times she's said "sniper fire" in the last few months is truly amusing.

Must feel good for the CBS people to have a gotcha moment that doesn't rely on documents forged with MS Word. :)

Rev. Wright may have some yet to be proven theories about the AIDS crisis in this country (the government was slow to respond was it not, after all it was just gays contracting it, and...), and drug proliferation in the ghetto, but he's not running for president.

I'd say, however, that the government has given more licenses to sell alcoholic beverages in the ghetto, per capita, than any other location.

To say that, since Rev. Wright is a confidant of, and adviser to, Obama, that Obama must hold the same extreme views, is stupid at best.

Lies got us entangled in Iraq. Lies are keeping us there. Lies have led to the death of 4000 of our military finest at last count, and perhaps ten times that number of wounded, not to mention the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis.

That's what those who're prone to lying can do, if they're president of the United States.

Rev. Wright's accusations at best could only lead to a presidential inquiry or investigation, if Obama, perchance, believes his pastor (which I'll stake my life own, he doesn't).

A presidential liar vs. a possible conspiracy theorist, give me the theorist any day.

The lying (I'm sorry, "misstatement") of
Bosnia takes the cake than the damning comments of Rev. Wright. Look, I've been under Ministers that spoke a comment once or twice that I didn't agree with or didn't reflect how I lead my life. But no one is going to dig those comments up from years of good works because I will never run for President.

That been said, a misstatement is something you say at the spur of the moment; same as mispoke - for those talking heads and Hillary camp who tries to insult people's intelligence. You don't say something over and over again and call it a "misstatement." I call it lying. Then you try to justify the lie by saying you were sleep-deprived; ok, so can we figure out that she was sleep-deprived on these Bosnia statements at all times?

I wish she would and BJ Bill would just go far, far away.

There are those that say that Hillary is spoiling the race for Obama so that McCain will win and she can swoop back in in 4 years. Bizarre but not entirely beyond the realm.

I don't care why she's spoiling the Democratic chance, I'd just wish she'd stop. She's #2 and the longer she hangs in, the worse the party looks. Have we learned nothing from Nader?!

With regard to spool32's comments on "lower expectations" for Hillary... it worked for Bush. Nobody expected him to do well in the debates so the bar was set low enough that his stepping over it was perceived as a big deal.

This country scares me.

Daily.

She thinks people are stupid but we're not. So long as there is Google and YouTube, you are not exempt from being labeled a liar. She's even got her own child lying for her. Wow.

*Goes back to sipping latte since that what we Obama supporters do*

Guys & gals: you clearing didn't see ALL the video of Tuzla & HRC dodging the sniper fire.
It went down like this:
Plane lands at Tuzla.
HRC exits the aircraft, smiles and waves at the peeps on the ground.
Listens to a poem. Gets a little kiss on the cheek.
But -----
Somewhere betweeen the handshakes and the Sheryl Crow Show, gunfire rings across the tarmac. Little pieces of asphalt get kicked up, throwing debris all over. Soldiers go on high alert, weapons at the ready. Special Ops guys investigate, find the lone gunman near the airport. Bring him in for questioning. HRC spots the gunman.
"Bill! Dammit Bill!"

@shinola:

I'd rather have the liar, honestly. The Conspiracy Theorist displays a fundamental inability to process facts, think logically, and discern truth from fiction. He's easily duped, and lacks the ability to differentiate between correlation and causation. This is a disastrous quality in a President.

The Liar is perfectly able to do all those things... in fact, he's usually very very good at them. He just makes up some bullshit when you ask him a question, to give himself some advantage.

I'd rather not be forced to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea, but between liar and conspiracy theorist, I'll take the guy who knows shit from shinola.
